Port Chalmers

Made an early morning land sighting of Port Chalmers in wet and misty conditions.

Easy entrance to the channel which was well buoyed.  Staying overnight to escape a nasty front coming in ... Forecast North Easterly rising to 35 knots later today.  The east coast is giving us either no wind or too much wind.

The little black dots appear to be a colony of penguins nesting.

It's gone chilly - thank goodness for Marmot, Macpac and Douglas Gill!!

Definitely time to put the swimsuit away.

The Harbour Master pointed us in the right direction to pick up a visitor's mooring buoy for the night.  A 4 ton weight to keep us safe at no charge, great service.

Commodore cooked up a splendid bacon and eggs for brunch, spending the day getting the boat ship shape again and catching up on our sleep. Have the heating running, everything feels cold and damp on board. Grey, dreary skies outside.  Heading to Bluff tomorrow, another early start, 140nm.

1.30pm just popped my head out the hatch ... Brrr!! It's gone arctic cold!!

  1. Oh how exciting watching the penguins. They are so gorgeous. Hope the winds are not too bad. 4 tone of anchorage seems a lot...but what do I know 😂. Enjoy your day of rest (jobs 😁). We are so enjoying your updates.

  3. Penguins! Everything looks great Jean; that weather is a bit nasty though. I hope you have plenty of layers on :).
