April Fool's Day in D'Urville Island
Woke up to blue skies and sunshine but with a real chill in the air, particularly when the southerly squall blasted through the anchorage whipping the tops of the waves into water spouts.
Stunning anchorage in Deserter’s Bay where we are surrounded by native bush growing right to the water’s edge. The scrubby hill tops around us look like they have just jumped out of a Peter McIntyre painting. We have the inlet all to ourselves except for one moored fishing boat.
We decided to go for an April Day’s swim - water temperature a chilly 16 degrees. A rest day mostly. Drying out all the damp foul weather gear and catching up on laundry and other jobs.
We poked our head out in the afternoon to sail to Pelorus Sounds so that Friday was a shorter day into Picton. Forecast read SE winds 35 knots/sea becoming very rough. The conditions were exactly as expected so we turned tail and went back into D'Urville for the night.
Oh my goodness I love the funky washing machine :)
