Exploring Paterson Inlet

 Paterson Inlet - a massive harbour of calm, sheltered waters.  Picturesque little islands with names such as Refuge Island, Crayfish, Bravo, Groper ... the boys caught 3 blue cod and hooked a 1.5m to 2m shark!!  Passed the remnants of a whaling station, bush right to the water's edge, chorus of bird song, the odd bach peeking through native bush, seals sunbathing on the beach, penguins and shags.  Watermaker at work producing 100 litres of water per hour for our hot showers.  Anchored 5pm at Glory Cove. Another awesome day aboard Mimu. It's cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey! Guy doing a quick keel haul in 11.7 degree waters Fillets of straight from the ocean blue cod, pan fried with leek and creme fraiche Ahoy me Matey!! Tied up to a wannabe palm tree. Practicing our "stern to" anchoring ready for Fiji (or maybe the  fiords first) This is how the rats get aboard!!

Sportsman Cove

  Saturday Fishing in the morning.  Clare and I zapping around in the tender taking photos of Mimu exiting Sportsman Cove.  Skipper with Droney McDroneface   Motored up Acheron Passage and moored behind the most gorgeous little island, Stick Cove, a really picturesque setting at the entrance to Wet Jacket Arm.  Amazing gold coloured granite backdrop on the island.  Laid an anchor and reversed into the island laying two stern lines.  Picture perfect setting with birdlife.  Clare kitted out in 5mm wetsuit snorkelling.  Dinner and movie night. Guide book describes Stick Cove as an "all weather anchorage" .... yea right!!

The Great Mercury Reccie

  The Wild Weather Report - Mimu is in the middle of that circle and purple/red means HUGE wind and is the reason why we are staying put.  Looks like a window will open for us Wednesday to sneak through the Colville Channel and then its downhill to Auckland. What a beautiful bottom Mimu!! Farewell, we'll be back   Off to explore Great Mercury.  We buzzed along, on the plane bouncing over small wind whipped waves into Michael Fay's harbour. We spied a yacht moored there to visit.  Chatted to a young couple off on a sailing adventure around NZ waiting out the weather like us.  A landing and now to explore. Wet feet but what's an adventure without wet feet! Looking South East. The scenes that awaited us as we climbed over a high point.  This is the east side of the island (we are moored on the west) and the wild ocean view was spectacular.  Wind was pumping!!!
