Wow!!! That looks beautiful. Hope the chicken curry was good :) I’m trying to convince Ben to take me somewhere on the boat so I can feel like a mermaid too. I have borrowed Asi’s life jacket lol
Paterson Inlet - a massive harbour of calm, sheltered waters. Picturesque little islands with names such as Refuge Island, Crayfish, Bravo, Groper ... the boys caught 3 blue cod and hooked a 1.5m to 2m shark!! Passed the remnants of a whaling station, bush right to the water's edge, chorus of bird song, the odd bach peeking through native bush, seals sunbathing on the beach, penguins and shags. Watermaker at work producing 100 litres of water per hour for our hot showers. Anchored 5pm at Glory Cove. Another awesome day aboard Mimu. It's cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey! Guy doing a quick keel haul in 11.7 degree waters Fillets of straight from the ocean blue cod, pan fried with leek and creme fraiche Ahoy me Matey!! Tied up to a wannabe palm tree. Practicing our "stern to" anchoring ready for Fiji (or maybe the fiords first) This is how the rats get aboard!!
YUMMMMMMM Jean's delish Thai Green Curry. Just warms your innards!! First Mate Jean is doing a fabulous job in the Galley!! Cooking in the Galley and moving around resembles being drunk! You are not sure which way the boat will be thrown on the big swells. Woke up for the 4am night watch, opened the cabin door to this absolute carnage in the main saloon. Mimu took a particularly large wave on the beam. This carnage nearly flattened the sleeping Skipper!! It was like playing hopscotch to get to the cockpit stairwell.
7.35am anchors away, blue skies and sunshine but as we motored out to the entrance of Akaroa Harbour we could see a band of dreaded sea fog approaching. An overnight sail of 158 nm to Port Chalmers. The fog drifted in and out all day, one moment brilliant blue sunshine, the next grey, damp air surrounded us. Very light northerly breeze, genoa up and motoring. Calm seas, easy conditions for us. Plenty of albatross about. So ungainly trying to take off. The boys had no joy fishing but we did have pods of dolphin swimming with us for a while. Big chunks of kelp floating in the sea - need to watch we don't catch it in the propeller. Spot the dolphin! 5.30pm bloody miserable conditions! Fog like pea soup. Grey. Damp. Cold. Zero visibility. It's going to be a long night. Expected dawn arrival in Port Chalmers.
That top photo could be taken in Fiji...if only.
